Are you a business owner that is confused about today's technology world? And what it can mean to you? What is XaaS? What is Technology-as-a-Service? Read on................

The cloud has emerged over the past recent years and there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t hear XaaS this - XaaS that - and how everything in the world is going to become some type of XaaS. So what is XaaS and how did we get here? XaaS can be defined as, “Any technology delivered over the internet that historically has been delivered on customer site”
And in a big nutshell we got here by several major recent technology innovations,

1. this thing we call the internet – that actually works flawlessly now
2. high speed networks and broadband that are just about everywhere and pretty darn cost-effective
3. server virtualization that has dramatically brought down the cost of powerful computing

Technology vs. Cloud Solutions and the Modern MSP

Are you a Small-to-Medium (SMB)? Do you want technology from your technology provider? Or do you want solutions to help you achieve your business' goals and objectives? Do you fully understand to extent that cloud solutions for SMBs in the form of cloud bundles and managed services are designed to help you achieve your business goals and objectives?

Until very recently we have lived many decades in a “technology” world – call it technology for the sake of technology. You know that world – mainframes, min-computers, PC’s, laptops, networking gear, big software, PBX’s etc – all of these used to enable business. And in this model you had the VAR and Interconnect delivering and maintaining this on-prem “stuff” – there really wasn’t much in terms of “solutions” that focused “dead center” on the business goals and objectives that we now call “business outcomes”.  Circa “today” enter cloud and the Modern MSP.

Security and Business Continuity is a "must provide" for the Modern MSP to offer to the SMB

Information security is a massive and growing problem – just watch the news including all the recent headlines and during the 2016 US Presidential race and election – it’s enough to scare anyone straight.

It goes well beyond user access control and extends to areas like intrusion detection and prevention for business applications and databases, spam filtering for email services and virus, spyware or malware protection and removal for systems and devices.

Beyond these security measures, the SMBs information assets must also be protected from accidental data loss due to user error, system failures or catastrophic events to ensure business continuity. Therefore, traditional security methods must be accompanied by the right data backup and disaster recovery regimen.

Total Service Management (TSM) is the icing on the SMB's "cloud" cake.

The minimum requirement for a Modern MSP is to deliver technology solutions to its clients is via a secure, reliable, highly available and highly responsive manner.  These solutions can leverage on premise equipment, cloud services or in most cases a mix of both.

Total Service Management takes that to the next level. TSM includes a variety of wrap around managed services that the Modern MSP can provide to its clients after deployment – all with the main goal of utilizing the appropriate technologies and services as a catalyst to deliver successful business outcomes.

There are many flavors of managed services that the Modern MSP can provide on an ongoing basis.  A successful suite of managed services is not only tactical offerings such as Helpdesk, Server or Network management, etc…..which include guaranteed response times and unlimited support incidents for a fixed monthly fee…..but also strategic services in the form of a long-term IT roadmap.

Are North America Channel Partners Going to Get in the Cloud?

I’ve been thinking of writing this blog now for a while, but wondering “am I going to ruffle any feathers?”, well maybe I’m in the feather ruffling mood today.

It continues to amaze me the dramatic difference in channel partners (ITSPs – VARs, MSPs, SIs etc) inside North America (NA) vs outside NA (especially in the UK, Scandinavia, South Africa and Australia as examples). Seems to me that many ITSPs outside NA are embracing cloud and adjusting their business models, vs. ITSPs inside NA. I see it every day working with ITSPs around the world. The ITSPs outside NA are more eager to build their cloud business and are willing to put in the hard work to do so, and the ITSPs inside NA are more hesitant and skeptical. Why is this you ask? Here’s my 2 cents worth,

Cloud Solutions Bundles 101 for the SMB

Here at SBT Partners we often use the analogy that SMB clients of any size or type should look at their cloud technology supplier like a great chef – where a great chef combines great food items and spices and transforms those into great meals that satisfies the customers’ appetite.

And a great cloud technology supplier, like a Modern MSP, must combine – or “bundle” individual cloud technologies and their own services into cloud solutions that satisfies the SMB’s appetite – their desired business outcomes.

So how does the Modern MSP do this? Take a look and find out.........

Is Your Technology Provider a Great Chef?

What is this about? Why do I care if my technology supplier can cook great meals? Well, in a roundabout way you do. Think about it, you go to a great restaurant to do what? Have a great time of course – but at the end of the day you are trying to satisfy your appetite. And the four star chef delivers that with a meal of individual food items that complement each other– not just a single food item.

Cloud has emerged over the past recent years, what the heck is it?

By definition, cloud computing is,
“Any technology delivered over the internet that historically has been delivered at the client site”

Simply put, cloud computing is technology that is owned, housed and maintained by someone else, and you pay a monthly fee to use it – what you want, and how much you want, based on your business needs.

Why cloud computing today?

And what’s in it for the SMB?

This educational animated video should help.
