So What is Cloud?

Any technology delivered over the internet that historically has been delivered on customer site and promises a future where all computing will be delivered in a utility model just like your electricity.

Cloud technology is not new – in fact it actually has been in use for decades. But it has taken a rock solid internet and high-speed broadband networks for cloud to make business sense – it certainly does now. There are several business benefits to cloud for your business – just to name a few:

  • Lower cost of technology ownership in many cases
  • Increased productivity within your organization and working with partners and vendors
  • Flexibility and scalability of the required technology you need to run your business as your business evolves
  • Instant back up and recovery from your cloud provider

But at SBT Partners we like to look at cloud as the enabler of Fortune 500 class technologies now available to any small to medium business – whether it be EDU, non-profits, financial services, manufacturing etc. Cloud allows these businesses to now focus 100% on running their business and cost-effectively leverage cloud specifically designed to deliver to them “business-outcomes”. Cloud first is all about business first.
Now that we know a bit about how cloud came about and what it can do for your business, let’s talk cloud 101.

The three basic building blocks of cloud are:

Software-as-a-Service

SaaS users are provided access to application software and databases. Cloud providers such as SBT manage the infrastructure and platforms that run the applications. SaaS is the faster growing cloud service lead by Microsoft O365.

Infrastructure-as-a-Service

IaaS is the most basic cloud-service. Providers of IaaS including SBT offer computers – physical or virtual machines – and other resources to clients in an on-demand and Technology as a Service model.

Platform-as-a-Service

With PaaS cloud providers deliver a computing platform, typically including operating system, programming language execution environment, database, and web server.

So What is Technology-as-a-Service?

The technology world as we know it is changing “forever” before our eyes. Cloud computing has gone from a conversation to now becoming the new normal for all businesses including the SMB.

But the reality is, cloud will always require some type of costly on premise technology. And today a migration process is required for any business to fully embrace cloud which means you will need a hybrid model of traditional costly on premise technology and cloud. To help our customers fast forward to the future with a 100% utility model for all their technology needs SBT Partners has created a service that provides our customers the best of both worlds – Technology-as-a-Service (TaaS).

TaaS provides you:

  • 100% budget friendly monthly Operational Expenditures (OPEX) vs large up front Capital Expenditures (CAPEX)
  • Strategic guidance for IT project initiatives including lease options for hardware & licensing
  • 0% financing for all professional services as it relates to IT Projects
  • Proven lower (Total Cost of Ownership) TCO
  • The ability for the SMB to have cost-effective access to F500 type business outcomes focused technologies

No matter what technologies you currently have or need that does not fall under the cloud OPEX model we’ll call it TaaS and offer it to you just like cloud and all on one monthly invoice. We are trying hard to allow our clients to “have their cake and eat it too”.
